I grew up in a home where both my parents smoked, my mother started smoking, because my father, wouldn't quit! I was never interested in smoking, and only one of my four sisters, did. I did like the smell of my father's pipe, when he would smoke that on occasion, and when he would blow warm smoke in our ears if we had an ear ache. I don't know if it actually did anything, to help, but it did make it feel better, for awhile. :^) It may have been a Native American(Karuk) remedy, passed down from his mother, or from his fathers side, they were tobacco plantation farmers in Virginia, in the 1650's-1900's, but maybe just a way he had to make us feel better. So, I guess this is where I learned to like different smoking paraphernalia, nicer to look at than to breath!
I started with some pipes that I had(inspired by Bonnie's post), but if some is good more is better, added the Tobacco Tin, then the Cigar Tin, how about an Aluminum Bowl with a Ship, a Boats Bell, oh, an Aluminum Cigarette Box, and Case, and a Bowling Match Safe, a Lighter, got to have Silver Plated Ashtrays, Beer Mug, Poker Cards and Box, and of course a Good Book? Darwin's The Descent Of Man! :^)
Sorry for all the words! Thanks for taking a look, and like always, I'm happy to try to answer your questions, or show more detail, or more information! Please Enjoy!

I collect alot of tobacco related stuff as well. No pipes. Great collection, how old is the match safe? What is it made from, Sterling?

My mom worked at a store called K-Mart, back when it had a deli. The deli was given control over the grocery department. This was back when tobacco wasn't really regulated.
One day, the phone rang, so she picked it up. On the other end, a boy asked, "Do you have Prince Albert in a can?"
      "Yes, we do," she responded.
And he shouted, "Well let him out!" and hung up the phone.
      LOL.

Looks like a nice Ben Wade pipe on the left from the era of their hand crafted Danish masterpieces designed by Preben Holm.

Hey Roy, yeah I know you do! :^)
Thank you, the Match safe is from the early 1900's, it's silver plate, over brass plate, over tin. Bowling on front, and duck shoot on back, and a view card from C.Jung. J.P.Roth. "The Park View" Cor. Elizabeth & Meeker Aves., Newark N.J. Billiard & Pool Bowling Alleys, Shuffle Board.
It was an amusement hall at the end of the line, of the new rail line that the city put in, to get the public out to the new park and lake on the outside of town. People complained that the lake was a mosquito infested swamp, so businessmen in the area put up the funds to revamp the area, put in the park, clean the lake, and put a 9 hole golf course in. It worked! Later the course was made into an 18 hole, golf course. All began in late 1880's, the rail line and The Park View, were completed in abt.1903. The match safe was probably a give-away at the opening.

It may very well be Bob, on the top it says Hand Made In Denmark and under that Golden Danish. I really like that one, it's a real piece of artwork! Thanks for your comment and the love! :^)

A great collection Bill......tobacco related things are good to collect, they usually don't take up too much room!!
    13. billretirecoll billretirecoll, 8 years ago
Thank you Judy! You're right, most don't take up too much room, but there was a fancy Art-Deco Floor Standing Ashtray, that was more like a piece of furniture, that I was denied, by my wife! {:^O Probably a good thing! :^D
Thanks so much for the love, too! :^)
