Hello Fellow Collectors and Visitors. Today I thought I'd stir the pot so to say. It's a common mistake, but most everyone considers the Mickey Mouse watch to be the start of the "Character" watch genre. But there were two others produced 2 years running before Ingersoll introduced the Mickey Mouse watch.
New Haven Clock Co. produced, marketed and sold two "Character" watches from the Fall of 1931. The "Smitty" & "Orphan Annie" watches were sold for 2 years before Mickey came into the works.
This watch is one of the early model Annie's, with the "checked" leather strap. This particular style was sold in 1932. The New Haven Character watches were licensed by Paul R. Gruen Inc.
Thanks for looking and hope you found this a touch informative.
Kerry

Don't forget Buster Brown pocket watch 1908!
@vonsboy, yes, but those were considered "Advertisement" genre. I agree with you totally, but as I was told several times....lol.... that Character watches started in the 1930 as a category. I've just agree with that ext. and go with it...LOL
