Hi there, I recently acquired this rather special pair of Fu Dog lamps. I can't find much info out there, I believe them to be from the 1940s-1960s and we're possible converted into lamps? Can anyone shed any more light (excuse the pun) on them?
Any info would be much appreciated :)
    Thank you!

These are awesome! A really appealing set of critters.
It's interesting that they are identical as Fu dogs usually come as a male and female.
Of course we are going to ask are there any marks at all anywhere? Are you able to remove them from the bases with out damaging anything to look for clues?

Hi @racer4four thanks for your reply. yes they are indeed. I smile every time I look at them :) the wooden plinths are glued on so no access to the underside. They are not remotely like any others I've seen, the whole centre of the body is pierced latticework style. I know that many were later converted but looking at these the area where the light stem comes out looks as though it was made for that, not just a drilled out back spike. Would think identification would be easier if that was the case, but I just can't find them anywhere?

The only other thing I can add is they are Chinese origin (which I'm sure you know), and this sort of articulated porcelain si usually of a higher production class.
I hope one of our Asians experts can help.

They are truly amazing! Reticulated bodies!
