    Here's a neat Imari bowl i found at my favorite junk shop today. it was only $5. i wonder when it was made and where? how can i tell the difference between Japanese and Chinese Imari?

      this is probably a Taisho period Imari bowl.

      I would always look at design elements on the pieces, colors and bottoms of the pieces, and shape. But I would get some books on imari that shows the differences between Chinese and Japanese imari. That what I have done and find people that have knowledge in that area. I still learning things. I would say its Meiji 1870-1890. The sections that show the gold centipede shape with all the red around it was popular in the 1870's to about 1890 but since it the bowl doesn't have a lot of it I think it is more around 1890's

      bull eye bottom + printware around 1900 maybe a bit later , i dont think it is late 19 century
