#2 ~ 1960s Authentic Hippie Folk Art Telephone from "the Village" (NY)
I love this piece. It captures the hippie spirit, the culture, the times all in one big & bold statement. Perfect hippie folk art. This was originally owned and created by a young couple living in a pad (aka apartment or flat) in the East Village back in the times of Dylan and Von Ronk, the birth of the new sound in rock, a growing political awareness by the youth, the coffee houses, and inescapably - the drugs. I acquired this from a folk art collector in Detroit who had visited the now older couple who needed some money and this was the only item he could wrestle from them. Apparently there was a radio and other objects similarly painted while living in the East Village that they would not part with... and to quote the Moody Blues "I know you're out there somewhere"...
Yeah. This would blow a liberal's head off. Interesting how people collect the polar opposite of who they are. I am a raging rabid actual hippie liberal and I love this stuff.
i would travel far to visit your museum when you open it Hippie Archeologist!
i have the perfect address/telephone book to go with it.
