I was able to make a match on this as an eBay seller has one with the label still on it. It is used for chopping vegetables or whatever it is one wishes to chop although it is called an onion chopper. Pitch man Vince was selling something like this although his was much newer.
The glass portion of this is 4" tall. About 9" tall with the chopper pulled up. It has markings for 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, 3/4cup and 1 cup. Also in ounces in increments of 2, 4, 6 and 8.
Not sure how old this is but I would say pre 1950s.

PS it has a wood slab on the bottom of the jar to use as a chopping block.

I believe I have one of these still that belonged to my mother in law. My wife used it to chop everything from walnuts to hard boiled eggs. It looked like a fun gadget but me playing with stuff in the kitchen wasn't appreciated. Seems I never put things back where they belong.
