Hello. I have seen these metal wall hangings that look like a photo has been transferred to it. Wondered if they have a name. Thought this one was unusual. Wondered if anyone knows the era that this might have been created. THanks.

These are called celluloid photo buttons or medallions. They were popular from the late 1890s through the 1940s.

As a military collector I have seen them and owned them with dates from the Spanish American War (1898) and into WW2. By far most of what I see tends to be from the 1910s- 30s (WW1 era on the military side).

I would think that yours dates from the 1920s- 30s based on clothing.

Should have added that the customer supplied the photograph and could choose from a variety of themed surrounds (military, flowers, memorial, etc...).

Originally, these came with a sturdy wire folding stand (inserted where the string is) to display or folded flat it could also be wall hung.
