So, I picked this up on one of my outings and only after I got home began to wonder if it's a reproduction or not. I'm thinking it most likely is but it's still pretty darn cool. (I have no clue why the 2nd photo looks so different. Has to be the camera, couldn't possibly be the operator)!

It is all brass and weights 10 lbs x 26 1/2" tall or 4.55 kg x 67.56 cm I hope those numbers are correctly converted. There are Phillips head screws near the top holding the base together, I think that should have maybe been my first clue, am I right about that? (I just looked up Phillips head screws and they were invented in 1934). So that could mean it did come from the Art Deco era, right?

I did go on-line to check for any clues to help me identify this, only to be more confused, as usual! ;)

I honestly don't know. Is there someone here that can ID this piece. It's pretty awesome either way and will look much better in front of the fireplace than the black mesh (brass or iron) one that's there now!

    Thanks all!

Bonnie, I'm laughing at myself...I thought I did put that and then I looked again at the title and it only says fan. Can you imagine trying to use this as a fan??? LOL! I'll fix it right now. That's funny.

Yes there are quite a few, I would like to know which is authentic and or reproduction. That's my question.

Yes definitely a reproduction piece. Prolly from the 60s to 70s. Very beautiful tho and i like the handle. Mostly can tell by the actual screen. The older ones had a different look. And yes the screws. But still a very nice piece and still worth some money. Hope you didn't over pay for yours!

Thanks Lamplover, I thought so. I did think the older ones had screens that were more solid. I will probably put it in front of the fireplace after I have it re-done and no, I didn't loose a thing ;) thank you!!

Even 1970s it's 50 years or so old, and looking good for it! Have you got a fire, or will this be a cat/dog barrier, or maybe a grandchild filter, or even a prosthetic tail for an unfortunate peacock?

LOL! Karen, I'm sitting here and the neighbors must think I'm nuts cuz I'm crackin' up!!! I do have a fireplace where it will look just fab! ;)

I can always count on you for a great laugh! Thanks xoxo

Like I told you Susie, I love this! The design is beautiful and the ability to open it when you need it and close it and tuck it away when not, is such a cool design feature!
