Sorry-these are photos that go with my submission a few minutes ago. This is the interior paint under the paper that I mentioned and also a picture of the exterior of the trunk. Thanks with any help identifying the age.
The trunk is more than likely from the late 1800s. The stripe underneath the poor paper job is the original paper ,not paint.The locks are not original to the trunk but replacements. The brass buttons on the slats/valance are more than likly original although they could have been applied at any time.They are three pieces (a nail ,running through the bottom of the button ,a brass button top to cover the exposed
nail head) It is canvas or duck cloth covered with steel banding. Hopes this helps a bit thanks for the post much luck with it.

Photos of the ends, bottom, and complete interior may help tell us if this was an American trunk, or from another country.
