This is a 9 3/8" square cast iron Dragon Tray, marked on the bottom JAPAN. Because of the mark, it can be dated after 1921, or after 1952, before 1921 it would be Nippon, and between 1947-1952 Occupied Japan. You can tell it's a Japanese Dragon because it has 3 toes. The tray is 1 1/2"high, and the interior is 6 5/8" square. There is a crack in the cast, starting 2 3/8" from the right side lower corner, and is 1 3/4" long to the inside corner. The tray was really rusty, so I cleaned it with 000 steel wool, WD40, then used a wood cleaner with oil in it, and wiped it dry.
Trays like this one are listed as a trinket tray, or an umbrella stand drip tray, but I think it's a stand alone piece of art work! :^)
Thanks for looking, I'll try to answer any questions that you have, and am happy for any comments, or information about this tray! :^D
Bill, this is beautiful!! You did a wonderful job restoring it to it's original glory. I wouldn't dare put a drippy umbrella in it! :-))))))
Thanks Bonnie, not on my watch! :^) I love the way it came out. I always forget to take a before picture, but really I could hardly see the dragon, and now to see it's back foot on the rim, and the way it's tail wraps around on the rim also, was such a surprise! I brought it back to the Flea Market today, to show it off! :^D
Thank you for the love Too, Bonnie,

Thank you for taking a look Katherine, and leaving some love! :^)
I noticed that this Dragon Dish has a very similar look to the Postage Stamp Box that I just got on 08/12/2020! :^D Wear a Mask and Stay Safe! :^)
