well kaysieclinton, looks like you have a flat top trunk from around late 1890's to early 1900's. appears to be canvas covered, if it doesn't have a makers label, very hard to say who made it, other than made in U. S. The strip running down the middle is vulcanized fiber. Would look really good with the canvas removed and stained, that is if the top is wood and not a fiber or thick cardboard material, appears to be wood, nice trunk, greendog.

Is there any way to figure out what brand it is?

What do you mean by "brand"....
    4. kaysieclinton, 8 years ago
I mean maker. Sorry. I did not mean brand

As Greendog correctly stated without a label to indentify specific maker very difficult to know -- any number of companies could have made this trunk - standard style and outsourced hardware limit our collective ability to find this info....

      Okay. Thanks

You are welcome -- this is a nice well made trunk... would look great refinished!

I've been told I can sell it more without it being refinished! Thank you! :)

Interesting.... having refinished many trunks similar to this I would say that in my experience the refinished ones sell for more and sell faster. Now this does depend on the trunk and the condition it's in... ie. state of covering and rarity of trunk. Let's say for this one at the very least you would not devalue it by refinishing... but again just an opinion. Hope for fun others would comment on this question. Thanks so much for posting it! :)

I agree with trunkman 100%, This trunk has a value of 50 to 100 dollars in this condition, refinished properly it could sell for 300 to 500 dollars, who ever told you you could get more for it as is, tell them to buy it.
