I picked up this oak piece at the flea market the other day. i can see it being used to sell thread or small parts at an old general store. what do you think it was used for? it's about 2 ft tall by 2 ft deep by 6" wide.
Used on the sides of a treadle sewing machine
MARK IT SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome
thanks ttomtucker! this piece does not have flat side where it would attach. it's a stand-alone piece. thanks Caper! it's not solved Celiene.
The drawers have been modified to work as a parts box. check my post for a white sewing machine.
i've seen the drawers you are talking about ttom, but this was constructed differently. i don't see any signs of modifications, do you?
Ho2
it does look like drawers to a treadle machine to me also......
Pic#1 on the both vertical strips of wood-each one has 4 screws.
In pic's 3&4 strips of wood have nails-each one has 8 nails.
Would use for a jewelry box if it was mine ;)
ho2 - If you research antique wooden sewing machines or drawers you will find everything from coffee tables to night stands to spice boxes made with them.
i see what you all mean now. so the top and bottom have been added?
I have something very similar, in looks,, I believe and I use it for a night,,, just be low the top a little shelf pulls out.. same style and looks like yours
