This footstool has been in my family for generations. It is hand carved but I'd like to know more about it. There are some number markings on the inside, but no furniture company name. It was given to me as belonging to my great grandmother who brought many items with her when she immigrated to the US in the late 1800's. As far as I can tell, the needlepoint is original.
The under side markings in picture 3 are stenciled warehouse or distribution center marks. I would doubt she brought it with her, probably purchased when she settled in here.
Thank you @fhrjr2. I agree it was probably purchased here. It has a chunky carving instead of fine finish. So I guess my next question is if this is the budget basement version. If so, it sure has worn well and I still love it!
If I had a guess I would say it was bought from a mail order catalog pre WWII. Not at all a budget or bargain basement item. Actually it was probably expensive when originally purchased. I have two of these left. One with a built in electric foot warmer from 1919. You have a nice collectible in the right forum.
Very pretty!!!
This is gorgeous and has been well taken care of. It looks like petite point stitching and also you can tell a lot just by how many upholstery tacks were used. This is definitely not inexpensive. Would bring a good price in today's market as well. Very nice.
