I had the chance to sit inside the cockpit of a WWII P-51D Mustang and it was rather nice. Seems very ergonomic and a large portion of the flying seems to have been down with the joy stick (properly called the stick here). The trigger for the gun is right there along with the bomb drop button on the stick although normally the right hand would be on the stick. The left hand controls the speed control seen in photo 4. The feet don't have much to do other than the rudder.
This was at the Yanks Air Museum in Chino, Ca. Chino has two large aviation museums plus several businesses for historic aircraft restoration.

I notice "carb heat". Injectors didn't use carb. heat & I'm wondering if "pressure carbs" did ?

Thank you very much BB2. I see Carb Air under the Coolant gauge but no Carb Heat.

Last pic, left bottom. A "pressure carb" was invented to prevent stalls during inverted & stalls of the aircraft. The Germans flew circles around Spitfires until the invention of the pressure carb. The Germans had invented the injector sys. 1st.
