This is a short 9" Marquetry vase from Kralik Cir. 1925-30 with lots of character. All Marquetry seem to be individually produced but this shape comes in at least two sizes (this is the smaller one). What makes this piece distinctive is that it has a very busy decor; it appears to be much denser than most. If you look at any of my pieces of this type you won't find one with this much layers and types of decor; it also has thicker glass walls.
Layers of glass in the production of the glass (from the inner layer -out):
1. Crystal casing glass
2. Opaque white base
3, Powder layer (applied in steps so that some powders cross over others)
4. Crystal layer of casing glass (to create dispensation with the surface decor)
5. Bambus decor is applied (prefab rod that is molten or furnace worked)
6. A floral Marquetry decor is applied (molten glass)
7. The piece is cold soaked in acid to frost the surface of the glass
Divine!
How many marquetry flowers are there around the body of these pieces - 3 or 4??
A beautiful stunning piece of glass the colours fantastic as well the technique quality
thanks for sharing Jericho
It's always 2 or 3... sometimes 3 clustered like a bunch
Ok. thanks for clarification. I've never handled one of these.
You gotta get one to go with the bambus types
