    A small Dixon&Sons round pewter whistle from the 1880s. The fipple is made of cocoa wood that is flat and not curved a positive indicator of a Dixon whistle. This one is stamped Dixon&Sons.

      Dixon (& Sons) were very diversified and in business "forevera". Powder & shot flask back to the early 1800's.

      It does have a spherical (pea) or ball. It can be just seen in the pic its quite big for the size of the whistle

      "Fipple" ! I like that. May I use it ? I'll have to work that word into my auctioneer routine .

      Haha its also the mouthpiece of a recorder or wind instrument.

      The opposite end to a "Fipple" is a ballish top, with a hole running through it to have a loop for hanging,
      is called a Knop.
