Given to me by friend , think it might be a grain / barley measure/. Brass plate on hardwood . 24 half cylinders as seen , number 6,12.18 and 24 . The top section has the corresponding 1/2 cylinder again in brass . Two handles on this section allowing it to run up and down on brass rails . the handle on the right has the word " right " written on it . The Brass plate as seen has " 5 grain " written on it .
Your one and only picture doesn't enlarge to view it. I sooner think it is zinc rather than brass. Who knows?
I'm pretty sure it's a pill roller. The medicinal compound is mixed to a paste which is spread across part of the bottom plate and the top plate is pushed back & forth forming the paste into tiny balls, weighing 5 grains. The balls are dried and become "pills."
100% solution to problem which perplexed a diverse population of locals situated north of the town of Trim County Meath Ireland for months . Well done UncleRon .
Great solve as usual, UncleRon :-)
