I found this bag at Goodwill. I discovered from another source that it had migrated to the US from India in the 1970s. The exterior has a few minor scratches, and had a great deal of oxidation when I received it. It shined up beautifully and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is in near mint condition! The detailing is beautiful. It is in a pillow shape and opens with a front clasp. The interior is beautifully lined with black velvet. Measurment are:
8"H x 6"W X 1.5"D
Strap Drop 23"
If anyone could provide any additional information on this particular bag, or even the metal bag trend of the 1970's, I would love to hear from you! Thanks!
neat and UNIQUE !!
Hi there, I've had a couple of these too. And yes, I believe the 70's is correct although I personally don't remember them from then and always thought they were older but...
They are referred to as "horse bucket purses" or horse feeder purses. I think the bucket is right. It's been a while.
I looked to see if there was velvet inside, I think mine both had purple velvet. Your's appears to be black but beside that I see some cleaning residual that needs to be removed. It's really not good to leave that on there, so you might just want to wipe it off. In most cases if that is in crevasses you can remove with a toothpick without scratching also.
Thank you, shareurpassion. Your information is very helpful. Yes, I noticed the cleaning residual after I took the photos, lol. And yes, the velvet is black. Do you have any idea how much this bag might be worth? Thank you.
I have one also and have seen them on Ebay. Mine was my Mothers and she used it occasionally
