This is one of my favorite Ethiopian opals. It is 32 cts of fire in an untreated caramel base. I set it on a sterling silver heart barrette with heavy oxidation.
I wear it often and it has lost two prongs in the gallery wire. Someday, when I find the ambition, I will reset it.
Of course, opals are notoriously difficult to photograph, so imagine how much more fire you can see in hand!
Wow gorgeous opal !!!!!!!!! It really has fire in it
Thanks Manikin! I'm very fortunate! This photo was taken in low/moderate light.
It is amazingly fiery! An d big!
I love the handmade mount with all those little prongs.
Thanks racer4four! Ethiopian opals are under appreciated. They are also an underdog when it comes to the powerful Australian lobby. As such, you can get a large, beautiful stone for a fraction of the cost. I could never have afforded an Australian stone of comparable darkness and fire. Believe me, I only wonder at it's beauty, not it's country of origin, every time I look at it!
