This aluminium stand has a 6.5-inch diameter plate and made in a very mid-century modern/space age retro design.

    Thrift store find.

No identifiable marks. Underside of stand is cast. The plate, top and bottom, and sides/top of the three legs are polished. The top has some minor scratches and is not as mirror-like as the underside of the plate.

    Does not screw together.

Age? Maker? Name of design and item type?

Ohhh ur on a roll today LOL my guess is a candle stand, maker? mid-century modern/space age retro oh wait u know that, I know (from being a Mold Maker) that being one piece it took a whole lot of metal hogging long before the finish work started, Great find
    2. SpiritBear, 8 years ago
Yeah, two whole posts this month. LOL.
I think it's two pieces. Not sure how they fit together.

ohh yeah I see that now likely a threaded stud on the top W/tapped hole on bottom (that sounded dirty after the fact LOL)

No, I used to moderate a large chat-site. Trust me, that was innocent compared to some of the users there.

Interesting job (the 1st day) whewww still innocent

Terrible volunteer job. And the paste function was removed, so I always had to retype the rules by paw every minute for an hour or more a day. LOL.

My guess is candleholder, SB. But could be totally wrong, that is a great piece of metal, love the shape. :)
    14. SpiritBear, 8 years ago
Shouldn't it have a spike to hold the candle?
    15. PoliticalPinbacks PoliticalPinbacks, 8 years ago
Newer one's would have a spike not so sure about older, St. Patty's Day, just green n funny
    16. SpiritBear, 8 years ago
      But a 6.5-inch-wide candle holder?
    17. antiquerose antiquerose, 8 years ago
No marks on the underside? I love the look of it too. I wonder if a Candle holder too, but not sure........Great Style on it!

Very interesting and cool! Not a cake plate, I wouldn't think anyway as it's not flat. Candles are flat too, so nix on that one. hmmm, I think I have to stick with ho2! It's def shaped like a saucer. Flying saucer launch pad it is!

There is only foundry pitting from being cast on the underside of the legs, Antique Rose. I dislike MCM stuff, but I thought I could make a buck on it.

Share Ur Passion, LOL. Now we just need the space ship.

This is what came up on a google image search, but I could never see it on the Pinterest site:

Mid Century Modern Atomic TRIPOD 3 Legged Aluminum Holder Tray Candle

There was a picture, on the search, but not there on site! :^)

Our photography of the pieces (I looked at it, too) is very similar. Theirs seems to have a more narrow stance, though. I also opted for a more monochrome background, even decreasing a lot of the colour that was reflecting off it from the surroundings I photographed it in.

Not saying that this is what I think it is but every time I look at it, it reminds me of those tripod head rests that bedouins sleep on when travelling in their caravans through the desert. They are usually not made of aluminum...lol

      Doesn't seem very comfy.
