Hello
I would like to share with you a purchase of mine, bought from the States few years ago.
I love anything Art Nouveau, Deco, repousse, intricate etc.
So this is a sterling William Kerr brooch of a maiden. I have seen the same one online however this one has what looks like a glass insert of a classical Greek profile in the middle of it. Anyone know what the material is and who it depicts? Why would it be inserted in the first place? I have the brooch in a safe so dont have a photo of the reverse.
Thank you :)
I t looks like a piece of Wedgwood porcelain. It definitely the right color of Wedgwood.
It's very pretty!
Thank you for the 'loves' . Celiene i have had in the past Wedgwood jewelry and the blue here is lighter and doesn't feel like pottery more like glass but its not translucent or transparent.
The cameo appears to be glass. The lady is of the type even serious scholars can only identify as 'bust of a veiled woman.' One example:

Think the brooch would have a big empty space in the middle if they had not put the cameo there. Why they chose a cameo instead of something else...?
