A piece I was lucky to find as I have never seen one before. It is a pail for milk or cream. It is about 10" tall not counting the hanger.
An interesting point about this is that the inside of the lid is much longer than the usual lid. Probably keeps the milk from sloshing out and more likely keeps it fresher.
Age on this is probably around the 100 year mark. Possibly from the late 1880s. It is hard to say as graniteware like this lacks maker marks. Swirl patterns were popular pre 1920. After that the solid color enamelware pieces with contrasting trim were more in style.
