STORY: I have an obsession with metals, brass, copper, silver. Oh the stories they could tell. I found this at a garage sale and questioned if I should purchase it. I held on to it for dear life and kept staring at it looking at the details and craftsmanship.
DESCRIPTION: There is no marking on the bottom. Attached to the pitcher is an ornate handle that is attached by rivets. The handle has a loop at the bottom and 2 U shaped details coming off of it. It doesn't appear that it is supposed to be something ie; leaves, birds etc. it looks as if it was part of the detail. No engraving or markings on the inside. It has a few patina spots.
weighs 10 oz.
size 5 1/16"H x 3 5/8" W (top) 3 1/2" D at (widest point in center)
any info on this would be great- thanks ! Mel
That's a hard call on what it should be...looks like there are missing parts from the top and the bottom of the handle. In fact, I bet the lid was attached to the handle at one point, but hey, a nice group of flowers...who knew. It'll be beautiful!
Welcome to CW!!! There's lot's of info found here! Fun too, so stick around...
I don't think it's very old, I mean probably not more then 50yrs. It's not hammered copper, and the brass handle is made too crude, to make it look older then it may be, but I don't think the handle was ever anything more than it is, a cast brass handle, made to look old. Could be made in Pakistan, or India, for sale at craft, Medieval, or Renaissance Faires. A neat looking cup, but like Share said, good for flowers, but maybe dry, would be best! :^)
I would also like to welcome you to CW! :^D It is a great place to learn about, and share collectables, and your knowledge too! There are a lot of very generous, knowledgeable, and friendly people here too! :^)
Oh! Mel, if you like copper, check out one of my first posts,"A Fall Collection of Copper", you might like it! :^) Have Fun!
