I think that this Chinese, but elements remind me of Japan too - the design w/ the swallows, particularly. i think that this was made between 1905 and 1920. what do you think? can anyone read the Chinese/Japanese? i think it's silver-plate, but the piece w/ the dragon on it might be solid silver.
thank you czech! great info and good eyes! thanks valentino!
And those grasping hands of the waves...Very beautiful detail.
thanks Deepseas! so this would be called 'a Japanese antimony box'.
I love it! I would have purchased it immediately and placed it on my Meiji Period Japanese desk.
thanks vintagelamp! it is a nice little box! i love so much japanese stuff!
I think the two characters might be “long life” ? (shou) and “good fortune” (fu). A great present for anyone celebrating their birthday.
Did you ever learn more on this box? I recently came across the same one and am totally in love, but can't find much on this exact one!
Hey, i have something similair. You still have it and know something more about yours ?
it's from Japan and made from antimony and probably the first half of the 20th c. not a whole lot more to know.
i think it is a type of fuku combination , it is probably KUN Reading native Japanese reading of a Chinese character), you need a bot for this , a part of the symbols means blessing
probably it is also means good luck, lot of luck, must be a nobrainer for a bot i have, not one
By the way, the characters are chinese
It means long life and happiness
