    katherines…
    (247 items)

So Ken has been posting some of his Avon brooches, and I remembered I had taken this group photo of my Avon brooches some time ago meaning to visit the reference library and see if I could identify them by name and year. I believe most of these are from the 80s. As you can see, though some are pretty enough, none of these are the spectacular beauties Avon has been known to produce, and for a good reason, most of these are not pieces I chose to buy for myself. I was a sales manager for Avon and would buy whatever the featured pieces were to both show to my clients and display at meetings to the representatives in my sales group. That's also why I own quite a lot of Avon jewelry from the 80s and if I can ever get all the pieces and groupings catalogued and identified will offer them for sale, assuming some collector will enjoy having them. In the first photo, you see the violets brooch in the top left hand corner, in the second photo, you see it again paired with the matching earrings. The third photo shows a brooch that could also be worn as a pendant, there were four in a series, I own all four. The fourth photo is a pretty brooch with matching earrings in a paisley style. Of all these, I think the cameo is the only one I'd keep. Thanks for looking.

Avon had just begun selling jewelry when I was going door-to-door in Tustin with my little blue pattern zip up " Avon cosmetics suitcase" (1972-1973). :-))))

Those suitcases are probably valuable now, Bonnie. I had the taupe print tote, with the matching taupe print order book. I remember winning a matching taupe raincoat and umbrella at one point, actually won just about every sales prize during my time with them.

Connaissez-vous les produits Avon? Oh yes I remember those days too even if I was only a child then. It sticks somehow :-)
      Very cool collection!

I just love all these, and weren't you a clever sales person!
Favourites? Hmm. The circlet with the diamante bow, the blue flower brooch/earring set, and the cameo, of course.

      Who's the cute pooch?

Thanks for the love, Hel1, fortapache, Efesgirl, aura, mikelv85, bijoucaillouvintage, vetraio50, tassieDevil, brunswick, JImam, Manikin, nustabotas6, racer4four, and inky. :)

Thanks, BCV, I take that means Do you know Avon? lol, sorry my high school French is long gone. When I was a kid, the slogan was Ding dong, Avon calling. Don't recall what it was when I was in sales. :)

Thanks, Ken, yes, I did like the bird series, I think they are transferware on porcelain. :)

Karen, I'm glad you like some of these pieces, as I say, they were featured pieces, as managers we got the merch at cost, so we'd order them and bring them around to our personal customers and show them at meetings to our sales group, I'd use a lot of stuff as giveaways and prizes. I was a good sales person and a good sales manager. It's not rocket science, lol. ;)

The doggie is a random Internet cutie, Spring is in the air, feel the love!

Hi Katherine! These are all nice. Great post and letting us in on your previous career. That's very cool. My grandmother loved Avon...I still have some of her perfume bottles from the 50's & 60's. Isn't Avon still in business? I think they are...

Thanks for the love, Karenoke, and shareurpassion. :)

Hi, Share, yes, Avon is still around, mostly selling their products online now, although I see dealers at the swap meet, too. I enjoyed my time working with them, and have to say they treated all their people good, sales persons and customers. My grandmother also was a loyal Avon user and like you I also have things she bought from them from years back. Back in the day everybody bought the Avon colognes, most families had the bottles in their bathrooms and figurines in their cabinets. The Christmas catalog was always popular. :)

Ding dong, Avon calling! Hahaha... that's even better than the french version!
