I am not a big wine drinker , have a few glasses in a month or so ; wouldn't know if it's good stuff or not and try different wines when I do indulge. In my area of Md. ,Va. & WV. there a quite a few vineyards and I really need to get out and explore them with my Mother and friends .
Here are a couple of wine tastevins I have come across in my thrifting and for the price could not leave them behind . The first tastevin was very dull , I wiped off with just a dry cloth so as not to ruin the petina and to read the information around the rim ; it says "Drink it without PipeLine " and is dated 25 September 1948 . The handle is a serpent and the silver has been punched out with large circles and punched in with smaller circles .
The second tastevin when purchased was still very bright and needed little cleaning . It also has a serpent handle but this one is two serpents with a pearl , small punched in dots below rim above the incised waves . The tastevin is used for seeing clarity of the wine and tasting , usually worn around the neck hanging from chain or rope , held by handle .
