Roy/Gary, see, I did make a banjo ! 2 actually, but no pix of that 1st one. It was called a contra-banjo by a friend who knew the whole story. 1st was a mountain banjo with real ivory inlays. I just called the 2nd one, a bluegrass banjo. I finally learned to pick out Rocky Top where it didn't scare the local dogs & cats.
I believe I didn't poste it because of the instructions about not to poste things you have made. Sold this one to a mega yacht kapitan. I made a nice case for it but don't see any pix of it.
Enjoyed making things. enjoyed banjo. So I made a couple !
Well done and a 5 string no less. My dad played banjo and 1/2 a dozen other instruments miss playing Dueling banjos with him (me on guitar)
Very cool Lucas.......Who follows rules ...lol Beside it a classic ...Glad you posted it now you'll have borrow one to go on utube and show us you playing Rocky Top...I'm sure the group would love to see you play butt....no singing ...lol later bud..
Thomas, I did the inlays myself Just as I made the rest of the 1st one. It was actually more fun to make.
This is awesome! I sure hope you signed them? Several years from now someone will be posting it here on CW asking if anyone knows the maker, age....lol
Well done bb2. You really are The Most Interesting Man in The World!
"The devil plays a 5 string". Roycroft, what I do has never been confused with singing. Daddy, a girl who knew me by reputation in the States, called me the "Alabama Hemingway" when we met, but you have taken exaggerations too far ! (you should have heard what that girl offered !) Enjoyed the fun remarks.
That is very cool! So you do have other talents!!! haha
When I'm not playing Tarzan in the jungles, Share. I can also tie my shoes (finally) & drive a car(with adult supervision).
YeeHaw getting ready to do some Flat Footing but BEWARE if you hear me hollar " DUCK " then you know my boot flew off...BTW very nicely made banjo...
Dogg, I had a blue grass group play in my club in Jamaica and you should have seen the locals ! "Wha dat, Mon ?". "Buck dancing, Mon !". This again is made from S. Amer. red woods. It is so hard & close grained that it won't float or absorb glues. That's why it is pegged & glued with epoxy. Thanks for the compliment. The only people in SXM who could play banjo were French & then, only 4 string.
Hmmm did you just wake up one day and decide to make a Banjo coz you liked them !! Wow. Wish I could do that with clothes ha ha. It's lovely.
Basically, that's the way it went, Wandless. Guess I'm rudderless.
Thanks gang, but I'm not making another one ( I don't think). Something would happen when I started looking into the beautiful grains of that S. Amer. red woods.
Artfoot was here. :+)
Yeah, yeah, yeah artfoot.
We use to be friend, what the hell, I was her too :-/
It's maybe for some reason, or it's because ,,,I am French, smiling ;-(
Regards
Alan
Alan, you don't live in Q-bec & French aren't allowed in Ontario. Are they ? What are you moaning about and aren't we still friends ?
Now is as good a time as any to mentioned what happened to me some months back. My French cardiologist told me I was having serious problems. Since I had dropped my French social health card, I flew to the States to have a heart attack. I was successful on Dec. 2nd & have been in card. rehab. since. Hope to go home by Oct.. History now, so no reason to talk about it.
Hey blunderbuss2,
This is an awesome banjo... you are a man of many skills!!! Everytime I see a bango, I think of the movie "Deliverance" haha. Have you ever seen it? It stars Burt Reynolds and a couple of other guys from back in the late 70's. Being from the south, it was always one of my favorites!!! The dueling banjos are a must see, although some of the actors dont do so well...
That kid was great even if he was strange, Thrifty. Probably the descendants of Yankees. (Time to stir the pot). That was shot on a river on the GA/NC border.
Oops. Meant GA/SC border.
Blunderbuss2, you are absolutely right about the river! It was the Chattooga river, the "crown jewel of the south". I'm not sure about the people that live on it, I just know that some people probably were not happy with the portrayls! You have to remember, it's a Southern thing!!! Talk to you later, Thrifty... P.S. Hope you are doing well!
Thrifty, those are descendants of carpetbaggers that Southerners would have nothing to do with & they interbreed . LOL !
Its a beauty, and also love the wood you used !~
Thanks Phil. I can't even remember the name of the wood.
Beautiful!
Much appreciated Virginia.ventage & the rest of our gang.
I'm being held captive in Kentucky. They say they won't release me until I talk like they do !!
You made it? That's awesome - Nice Work!
Buckethead, you finally made the party. Yep, made it with helping metal parts from Stew-Mac. (Stewart MacDonald). Thanks & come back when you can stay longer.
Thanks for the "ReLove" Thomas. "Salvageable" ? Did you take care of that clean-up in aisle 3 ? LOL !
Thomas, I was referring to the Gibson(?) 4 string banjo posted. We need your expert opinion.
