I just got this trunk. It was already restored. I don't think it was restored to it's original state??. There are no visible markings. Thinking it was covered? I've been mesmerised by trunks my entire life. This is my first one.

Does this trunk look familiar to anyone? Do you know where the marking could be? What the original state looked like? And if it would be possible, w/o damaging, to return to original state?? Please help.

Hi Breezy, pictures are to fuzzy to get a good look at anything, but I would say your trunk is from late 1800's, 1890's or so. The outside looks close to original condition, can't tell if the lighter tin is embossed or smooth, if it is smooth it was most likely what they called crystallized tin, gold was the most popular color. Most trunks are not restored to original condition because it is a painstaking task, and then we can only come close. You probably will not find any markings or labels anywhere, most trunks didn't even have labels put in them, this was a common style trunk made by many trunk makers, impossible to say who made it. greendog

LMAO, I love how you say it is your first one. You've got the bug haven't you? Nice looking trunk, it looks like whoever did it did a nice job.
