    THIS LOOKS TO BE AN WWII AVENGER CLASS PLANE. NO IDEA AS TO AGE OR VALUE. JUST CAUGHT MY EYE AT THE AUCTION. ABOUT 91/2 INCHES LONG WITH A 9 INCH WING SPAN.

      Played with these as a child in the 50's if that helps date it any, I know you could buy them new then... this one appears to be missing the propeller and canopy but that would be typical for the age, Very nice find, I haave no idea of value but toyman might if he's still on here.

      THANKS POP_ABIDES THE INFO IS APPRECIATED. IT JUST CAUGHT MY EYE. THEY DON'T MAKE TOYS WITH THE QUALITY OF THIS ANY MORE.

      I can add some depth to the information. This is a Hubley #495 Fighter-Bomber and a FIRST EDITION unit. The props and canopies are reproduced so the airplane could be made complete. This had the original, no "hump", cowling making it a cleaner design. Later versions have a hump to accommodate a different cowl attachment. It was meant to be a cross-over toy design melding features of the Republic P-47, Grumman F6F and Vought F4U fighter airplanes. These were companies made famous by WW2 and within a day's travel from the Hubley plant in Pennsylvania. In pristine original condition with its original box, a first edition (either red/silver or all green) will fetch $200-$300. In its current state, $50-$75.
