Isn't it great when you get things still in their original packaging and reliably dated?!

This set consists of 6 lots of a plate, water (or tea) glass, and a shot glass, all in the original paper wrapping in a fitted cardboard box. It is interesting that it is a setting for six; generally Japanese sets are for five.
Inside the lid the set is labelled 1961, which makes me happy because I have generally considered this style of glass to be early 1960s.

The glass is called Coral Glass by Sasaki, but the mix of a translucent coloured glass and a white slag glass was popular by many makers at this time. The drinking and shot glasses have a ridged moulding that gives a great optical look, and the plates are slightly dished.

All pieces are nicely labelled and all have the Sasaki six point star moulded in the bottom, although it's pretty difficult to see.

I feel a picnic coming on!

Wonderful! I love the mix of translucent and opaque, and that milky pink, gorgeous!

Great find Karen! :^) It is nice to find older things still in original packaging, whether for yourself, or selling, always better! I think they were made for export, that's why six sets. Sushi, Saki, and water, just a beautiful set! :^D

I couldn't agree with you more and it's not very often you find everything so tidy! These have a great appeal to them!

Thanks very much Thomas, and I will happily take the complement.

Bijou I always love your enthusiasm! It's a pretty set, thank you.

I thought the six might mean a set made to export Bill, so thanks. I was going to say the shot glass was for sake too but your trio sounds so good: sushi, sake, and water. Perfect!

Isn't the box great Sue?! I am more excited about it than the glass (nearly).
      Thanks mate!

Racer, what size are these bowls? Looks like 6 inches?
This also is the color of my set. (I'm still drooling over the yellow ; )

Yes they are about 6 inches, but this purple or similar, was also used by Multi Glass (FTG) and Hokuyo Glass to a lesser degree. I have seen Kamei labelled pieces also in purple but it's my belief Hokuyo made them for Kamei.
They are all very similar and without a label it's difficult to tell brands apart, for me at least!
Sounds like a gorgeous set. It's hard to find bowls in the West, glasses were and plates were more common. Great you have providence for them too!
