The photo on the right is an example of Margaret Keane's artwork. She is alive and well and living in Napa, California.
Michel Thomas was a Parisian painter who specialized in paintings of children in settings from around the French city. His work gained popularity in the late 1960s. Michel Thomas became the most prolific French painter of the era's "big eye movement" of doe-eyed kids. There doesn't seem to be any info available about him, otherwise.
I already had the girl with the loaf of French bread. Today, I found the others in a thrift shop. The boy has a small paper label on the back which says "KIKIRIKI SPANIA". The girl with the bread is behind glass. The other two are on particle/pressboard.
Less than 5 bucks for the three.
Thanks for stopping by!
Bonnie
Precious ! Love them all
Did you see the "Big Eyes" movie? Her hubby took credit for years for them, Then filed suit once she spoke up, he lost and ended up alone and broke aka karma
(Love the guitar)
@PoliticalPinbacks - I didn't know there was a movie. Will have to look it up.
Ken - thanks so much!
Yes Bonnie, like Ken said, it looks like you posed to match it! Great look! :^)
oops spoiler alert, maybe he ended up with everything then lol
"Big Eyes" is one of my favorite movies, it's based on the true story of the original painter of these portraits, Margaret Keane, and her husband, Walter. Her paintings were the inspiration for all the big eye paintings, dolls, figurines, that came after, in my opinion there were many good imitators but none captured the same vibe as Margaret Keane's work. I keep hoping I'll come across one of her paintings in a yard sale, lol, only way I could afford them now, very pricey, and highly collectible.
Katherine - I have never come across any of her paintings or prints in this part of the world. I will have to pay more attention now. :-))))
The "Big Eye" prints I have are by Michel Thomas, a French artist.

In France those kids are called "Poulbots", more about these by Michel Thomas (you'll have to use the translator, it is in French...)
