This tool is my latest acquisition, picked up from another collector yesterday. It is 6.5 inches long and 2 inches wide. Just under .25 of an inch thick. The end of the blade has a widely splayed notch which was sharpened along its top edge. It seems to have had a hatchet type handle. Does anyone know what this tool was used for?
adze shape for sure, I was thinking a weed puller or if the V shape is sharp maybe to wack off a wood dowel/peg like in old barn building.
Edge is now blunt but looks like it was very sharp at one time. The tool is quite light so I presume whatever it was designed to cut was not very strong. Also, having the sharpened side on top means it would not have been possible to cut something off flush.
maybe a roofing tool? to pull nails under a shingle
I think the notch is much to wide for pulling nails.
