Yes, another overlay! This one is a beautiful Loetz PG 7579 in Rubin with sterling overlay by JE Caldwell & Co. ca 1900. This PG is newly documented and is shown here on it's namesake PN 7579. It is a wide-mouthed vase with three indentations and has a polished pontil. Dimensions 4-1/8 tall by 4-1/2 wide.

I don't think I have ever seen such intricate or heavy silver overlay. It is perhaps too much as it makes it difficult to see Loetz's swirling thumbprint design with silver threads. Regardless, I think it is beautiful!

The silver depicts a Lily-of-the Valley on one side, Forget-Me-Nots on the second and has an un-engraved cartouche on the third. This decor shows strong rainbow iridescence and a deep ruby color that glows when light shines through it.

The JE Caldwell silver company is still in business today. I called the company looking for information on the vase and was told that their historic records were lost in a flood many years ago.

Thanks to Deb for tracking down this new Phaenomen Genre and I understand we will see her posting in the newly documented decors section of Loetz.com soon.

Actually, I have studied your vase and believe it is an example of another but rarer PG decor. If you email me, I can share more details of my research with you.

I'm not big fan of silver overlay Sammy, but yours is so different from others I've seen! I love it!

Thanks Deb, thanks Rick! It makes a great candle holder (gasp) with battery operated votive lights inside. Too wide for a bouquet, unless you had a dozen short stemmed roses!
