These were another find while we were up in Salem Oregon over the Memorial Day weekend. We found these in a Thrift Store, near our Hotel room.
The figurine vase was made in California by Max Weil Pottery, the same company that made the Weil Ware, Ming Tree Vase, of a recent post.
The 1940's 9" vase of a standing child, with opening for flowers, in their arms at their chest, has a modernist, but sweet gentle look. It's got a cream colored face and pants, brown hair and eye spots, green shirt, with blue collar, and opening, and a little pink mouth spot. It has a round paper label on the back right leg, that reads on top CALIFORNIA, on the bottom FIGURINE, and between the Max Weil mark, M over W, with Co, in the center. It's in near new condition with slight base ware.
When I saw the 3" Cats salt and pepper, I thought that they were unmarked, Modglin's Originals, but after checking closer, the 1940's shakers, could be Walker, Rio Hondo, or several other California potteries, because they're missing the squiggle action lines that most Modglin's have. The cute cats shakers, with pink tongues to the side of a smiling mouth, are light yellow, with orange tail, bow on back neck, and 3 flowers on top of their head, they have a brown line drawn face, with green eyes and leaves, next to the flowers. One has 2 holes on top, the other has 3 holes, both with a hole on the bottom. They're both in great condition, clean and bright! :^D
