My limited research on this indicates that Frank Guyton started the Wellston Bottling Works around 1908. His bottling works was located at 5749 Theodosia in St. Louis, Missouri.
Around 1930 or so a David Massa is listed as Pres-Treas. and Frank is V.P.
In 1946 the name changes to Town Crier Bottling Co. and is located at 7314 Natural Bridge road in St. Louis.
They bottled through the years, Town Crier Beverages, Guyton's Liquid Candy, Orange Crush, Lemon Crush and Smile.
Pic 1 is a qt. size Frank Guyton dated 1927
Pic 2 is a 7 oz. Town Crier dated 1938
Pic. 3 is a 7 & 24 oz. Liquid Candy both 1927
Pic 4 has 7 oz dated 1946, 10 oz dated 1950, and 24 oz dated 1939.
Dated, or design copyrighted?
SpiritBear, I am not sure I understand your question.
It's just not common to see 1930s ACLs outside the milk and RC-Cola world.
I agree with your statement, I believe you are referring to the 24 0z dated 1939. This bottle has the diamond-oval-I marks with a three to the left (Fairmont WV plant) and a nine with no dot which should indicate 1939. I know it looks to be more of a 1949 bottle but it has Wellston Bottling Co printed on the bottle and the company changed names to Town Crier in 1946.
Suits me well. Nice research.
