I do know there are real pearl necklaces in their original boxes, etc. but I had a handful of others I'm trying to sort into 'real' vs 'costume'.
Since these had the hand tie between them, I am unsure what to think
Not really possible to tell you that from the photos. Real pearls feel gritty when rubbed against your natural teeth. Faux pearls are completely smooth. Faux pearls can also peel - real ones do not.

Efesgirl, thanks for clarifying you can't tell from photos. Since I have an almost 30 yr old strand of Mikimoto pearls that need to be restrung..some of the very few 'fine jewelry' or 'suspected fine jewelry pieces', I plan to take them to get appraised.
I'll include these with the box I'll be taking when I feel like I've found a decent appraiser. I'm not sure if any of the costume jewelry is worth appraising in terms of insurance but I'd say I don't think so. The dog decanter I inherited (unrelated to jewelry) is worth adding on to insurance.
