You have an American made travel trunk from around 1910. It has a canvas covering, and Vulcanized fiber edging and center bands. (I know it looks like leather, but it is not) The initials are most likely from the original purchaser, as trunk companies would paint whatever you wanted on the trunk when you purchased one. Think of it as a luggage tag so that you could distinguish your trunk from all the others. Hope this helps,
      Jim
