I love Ueno's glass and have posted some before, but his work has been harder to find lately, and what there is has gone up in price. I was pretty happy to find this vase.
It is typical of Ueno's craft in that the apparently simple shape has been worked to a large degree to finish the design. The ovoid shape has a hand finished lip, and the almost organic mix of colours have been laid in a very striated design. After blowing, the piece has been battuto ground, in long parallel, vertical grooves. The whole has been sand blasted to finish.
It is a sizeable piece at 28cm, and quite thick walled.
Ueno has a very long history with a number of Japan's larger glass houses, but has been in his own studio for about 20 years now. I think this work shows his creative style well.
It is very psychedelic.
Got to love everything about this. It really is art!
beautiful in every way!!
Gorgeous! It looks almost like a landscape, like a dust storm in a desert....
Snap, it's gorgeous. Love it but never come across glass like this.
fab reminds me of sedimentary layers of rock beautiful Karen !!!!!!!!
Are you showing your age there Roy, or just lovin' the groove. Thanks for the love and comment.

Peggy you have such a beautiful and creative imagination. Yes, I can see that!
Thanks Fran. Japanese art glass is certainly not mainstream; in style or availability!
Like Peggy you have a great imagination Malkey, and you are both offering great images to me. I may now call this my Ueno Landscape.
Thanks mate!
Love this!
Congratulations on another great find !!!
Fabulous Battuto !!!!
Many thanks VintageLamp, glad you like it.
I'm pretty happy with it Kevin. Ueno is a class artist I think, and the battuto is a great touch on this one. Thanks for the comment, catch up at the markets soon!
~ Wow ~
I LOVE IT KAREN! This pretty much covers it all... the oblong shape, the beautiful transitioning colors, the finished rim, the light-handed grinding and the sandblasted finish. Fabulous piece of glass! One of my favorites that you've posted!
Thanks Rose :)
What a compliment from you Rick, great to hear.
Ueno is a master and I always have my eye out for his work. This one has been a happy find.
Karen,
I really love this one!
It's a cool piece and I am so glad you like it Scott. Many thanks!
this is very nice colorcombination, sunken rim gives it dynamic , very nice
Ueno is a great artist Apotata, able to move from this very loose and organic style to very refined work.
He has now retired I believe.
Thanks for the comment.
