Still yet another Al Bersted item. Al Bersted was the king of cheap electric small appliances. Most notably electric fans along with waffle irons, sandwich presses and hot plates. He used to buy up small companies and finally sold his company to McGraw Edison and then became the president of that company. That is the company that made the Eskimo fans. Anyway he was quite the wheeler dealer and the king of dime store small appliances.
As for this pieces I bought it before I knew what it was because I thought it looked neat. It is the Model 400 Popcorn Popper produced about 1927. That is probably based on the patent date but I haven't looked that up yet.
There is a little door that opens up to put the corn in. The top opens up to reveal the heating element. It also has what seems to be the original cord but cords get replaced now and then. Have not tested it yet any volunteers?
The shape and handles are so period and cool.
Try the element with a knife first - or don't.
Thank you very much racer4four. I'll probably plug it into a safety strip.
