I posted the craigslist photos I had of this trunk a few months back but could not upload better pictures until now. I don't know anything about this trunk, I got it for my husband as a gift and the people selling it had gotten it when cleaning out a deceased persons home.

I would love to know more about it or hear recommendations as to how I can improve anything on it. It does have some cracking in the (leather?) material that covers it in some places, but nothing major.

Nice hardware on this one. would like to see the back hinges if I could. Yes embossed leather, brown and gold, not original, would have been black with silver (tinned) hardware, which in my opinion would look much better, but that's just my opinion, love this trunk, greendog.

Would it be safe for me to take that color off with a paint remover? Where can I place additional photos? The listing only allows me 4 photos

You can swap out a photo on your current post or just post a new one, yes you can do it with paint remover, tape off your leather areas good so you don't get it on the leather, i use a citrus based stripper myself.

It wasn't allowing me to edit my existing photos, only remove them.

Here is a link to a picture of the hinges and a side view as well

They must have changed the format, in the past you could change pictures, anyway, not the hinges I was expecting, not sure who made these, can't make out the writing on the hinge. Like I said on my post, it's up to you whether or not you strip off the leather, I see it's not that good on that end but your call, but that brown and gold would have to go, if it were mine.

Wonderful trunk. Some thoughts: I would consider leaving the leather on this one, it appears from the pictures provided that most of it is in tact and relatively good condition.Mink oil and saddle soap can add moisture to the dried leather. It is a choice to strip it thought, as mold can sometimes be underneath. Once you pull the embossed leather its hard to go back from original. It will darken it initially but over time will lighten up. I have a few leather trunks with original coverings that I periodically (once a year)coat this way.Be gentle.I would replace the lid lifter that is missing on the front.I would look for a period lid lifter in (metal) or replace with a leather one. I would consider replacing the handles.GreenDog is on point as to taping off areas that you use stripper on.
Incidentally HMS trunks has a set of handles for sale on his site.
