Hello everyone,
I picked up this trunk by the side of the road over the weekend. It looked too historical to be thrown away!
The latches indicate that it was made by Eagle Lock, but I do not know anything else.
I also don't know if I should restore it, keep it as is, or sell it to an antique dealer (or museum!).
The leather cover is , as you can see, peeling, and its overall condition is fair.
What can you tell me about it and what should I do? Please Help!

Eagle lock co. made the lock not the trunk, without a makers label impossible to say as this style of trunk was made by dozens of trunk makers at the time. The trunk is a C.A. Taylor cross slat design patented in 1880, the trunk needs to be refinished, it isn't worth much as it sit's. Cut the remaining leather off with an X-Acto knife as close to the edges as you can, a little sanding a little metal cleaning and put a clear coat on it, remove any old paper from the in side also. greendog
