Bought this Stand Ashtray with light for a local look like new and was used for the last 40 years for candy holder the ashtray itself was removed and replace by a candy dish. What a nice find. I think is for early 60's the bottom is made of porcelain.

This ashtray was made approx 1950- 53. The bottom is not porcelain but is slag glass that they threw in a brownish swirl colour when they were making the milk glass. The ashtray was made by Metalcraft Manufacturiing Co. Ltd. out of Toronto Canada. The top can be unscrewed as the small decorative piece uner the chrome ashtray holder should be sitting on top of the Slag glass at the bottom. I have collected these since 1981 and the airplane ashtray floor model which was only made in Canada by Metalcraft and using this same beautiful decorative piece of glass at the bottom. If it was porcelain the light would not shine through it. My mother bought hers in the early 1950's. a little more decorative but with same glass at bottom. They were sold also through Eatons and are in the catalogs in the 1950's. Before the 50's the main bodies were just made all in chrome at the base and first appeared after the war in mid 1940's.
