This Spark plug whistle is around the 1920's as is the Splitdorf Spark Plug ? I am not sure of the Company that made it as the on it are ILL . I have been wanting one of these for years for my spark plug collection .
Maybe someone can identify the maker for me

Whistle ? What is it for ? Antique spark plugs would be an a good sideline. I found some material that showed almost all the old plus & it was interesting.

Hi Blunderbuss2, It was screwed into a spark plug hole in the head.. It was used as the horn on early Vehicles and had a cable going to a lever on the floor which you pressed . I can tell you it's loud!,. Must have lowered the compression when you used it and had a bit of a miss . spark plug collecting is Great I have around 2400 plugs and related Items ...

Are you serious??? haha That's pretty clever, sort of anyway. Glad you were able to add this one, I'm thinking this may be one of the only things around that might carry the actual meaning of the word rare!

Hi shareurpassion , No they are not rare just expensive, and my wife won't give me any more allowance above my current salary ...lol they also made exhaust explosion whistles which are also neat . Ebay has them on from time to time ..

Who the heck would even begin to think spark plugs are collectible? This is my lesson for the day. I learned something new. Thank you for informing me, I always enjoy learning.

Hi fhrjr2, Spark plug collecting is a great hobby there were over 5000 Manufacturers in the early years .. you would be amazed at the different style , shapes an sizes of spark plugs . The French plugs are very desirable ..

How much is the rarest worth ? We won't tell your wife if you bought one.

blunderbuss2 I've seen them up to $300 US and more . convert that into NZD + postage Of around $60 US and we are in for a tidy sum

I suppose that car & aircraft plugs were the same for awhile ?
    10. fuzzmugin fuzzmugin, 7 years ago
blunderbuss2, The Basic shape of the spark plug was the same for awhile but the aircraft ones had better electrodes and more cooling such as fins and holes around them some did and some did not ...

I have a new spark plug like that without the whistle I was told it was made for a very old motor bike I think it was called a green devil.
    12. fuzzmugin fuzzmugin, 7 years ago
Hi Ralph the Green hexagon was made by Splitdorf they Made around 6 colours of Hexagonal plugs Green, White , Red, Blue , Pink and Yellow which was the Hedstrom hexagon. Yes the Splitdorf Hexagon spark plugs were made for Motorcycles as well as cars trucks and tractors ..... Not seen a green Devil spark plug.. just checking through my spark plug lists of around 5000 plugs that are listed in the book

Just had a thought & looked it up. This design was also used for compression releases on small engines. I remembered a Whizzer bike a friend had & it made me wonder.
    16. fuzzmugin fuzzmugin, 7 years ago
Hi Blunderbuss , That would also make sense as it certainly lowers the compression on one cylinder...

blunderbuss2 that would be good for a pull start lawnmower.
    18. fuzzmugin fuzzmugin, 7 years ago
