    This was found in the wall of and early 1900's house which had rooms added on around late 1955. What is this?

      Welcome to CW Rljl79, I can't help you with identifying this, may be a staple puller of some kind, but it would help if you had a side view, and a size. I'm sure someone will know though. Thanks for posting! :^)

      This is a punch needle rug making tool. Wool yarn would be threaded through the hole in the needle, poke it through the fabric backing, push down one side and the flat metal piece would help release a measured length of thread. It was considered an innovative design that allowed the user to use two hands and work twice as fast instead of using just a single hook with a handle. It's one of several different handle designs I've collected. Maybe from the 1920s ? google antique punch needle rug tool and you'll see a number of different designs in wood and metal that work very much the same way.
