I got this tool at a yard sale last weekend. It is cast iron and it is made to clamp onto a bench or table. It looks like some kind of a mold for making a round object (with a flat top) that would be about 1-3/4" in diameter. The two halves separate to release the object once is is solidified (my assumption). My immediate thought was that it was for making lead projectiles, but I would appreciate any help in identifying it.

I would say it is a lead mold. Makes small ingots, possibly for back lead fishing sinkers.

That would make sense since the yard sale was on Little Deer Isle, Maine. Most of the fishing today is for lobsters and scallops but in the past there was a lot of fishing for cod, halibut etc.

Could be a sinker mold, but i never seen one with a flat top before. If it is/was a sinker mold you should see some lead residue? My guess, is a swivel ball holder for a small portable bench vice.

Kinda like this one. Could also be a fly tying vise.

Izenglish, you nailed it, thanks. Unfortunately, I did not get the handsaw vise with it.

Good deal larrypac! Now go ahead and mark it as solved, as is how "MOST" of us play the game here, and Welcome!

lzenglish good solve. FYI a back lead sinker is flat on the bottom rounded on top.

Bottom half of a saw sharpening vise. (Top bit is missing)
