This pair of Victorian hand vases are both right - handed. They are made from a single layer of opaque black glass which appears deep purple when seen in daylight. They measure 23 cm tall, 9 cm across the double crimped top rim, & 8 cm across the base. The vases feature decoration in coralene of pears, leaves, & flowers, as well as traces of gilding.
Bohemian origin.
love the decoration the colours super & decor finish works like magic smashing pair IronLace
thanks for sharing your fab pieces !!!!!!!!
Many thanks, MALKEY. These were bought back in the short - lived era of eBay Live Auctions...had to organise the pick up from the auction house & shipping separately all via email...a big hassle, & the vases took ages to arrive, but it was worth all the effort to get them, as black hand vases are rare. The coralene decor, rarer still.
So very Victorian, and good for it!
My education continues IronLace; I had to look up coraline and now I will have a better idea of the process when I see it. Thanks :)
Yes, these are about as Victorian as it gets...I am such an enthusiast of the aesthetic & sensibilities of that great era! It isn't visible in this photo, but when items decorated with coralene are lit from the side the coralene beads light up with a flash due to their reflective quality. You need to view it in a lowish light, & shine a light source like a torch on it. The concept is rather like that of the "cat's eyes" used on roads.
