    (20 items)

Trying to figure out what this brass item is used for. It's divided into 4 square sections. The base measures 11" x 11" and is 6 1/2" high. Each of the sections is 5" x 5". The middle top looks like a handle.

Different ideas include holders for books, flower pots or wine.

I would like to know the original purpose.

UPDATE: A suggestion was made that it might be for decanters and I happened to have 2. See the pics with the decanters.

    Thanks!

Could it be a condiment caddy?
    2. billretirecoll billretirecoll, 7 years ago
Yes Beemish, just what I was thinking! :^)

Thanks for the suggestion; I han't considered that.

      Yes, I did notice that.

Not only that, I believe it was something that was recently put together. The bottom looks like it's from a holder for the fireplace tools.

The height of the handle suggests that what you'd put in the four equal spaces would be lower than it. So bottles are out, decanters too. Five inches is quite large.

I thought for condiments but at a foot wide it seems a bit big for a table !! But otherwise I have no ideas ? Clueless in Seattle and elsewhere. Could almost see it in a bar for wine decanters.

Beverage napkins are about 5" square, aren't they...it'd hold a bunch of those nicely, maybe?

Thanks for the napkin suggestion. Could be.

It might be missing its glass bottles that you would fill with liquor? I've seen square glass booze bottles in other caddies.

You just gave me an "aha" moment. I have 2 crystal decanters and put them in it. With 4 it would look darn cool. See pics

I suppose this rules out using it for the condoms & mints ;)

      similar to some flatware caddies:

Looks like it could be, just missing the inserts. Nice finds. Thanks.

might it be for cocktail napkins?

I think TallCakes has the correct answer. If it were for decanters, and you were to carry it with a decanter missing, you would have booze and glass all over the floor.
