My wife and I picked this piece up through an estate auction. Originally, we were planning a simple fix and flip, but there seems to be some intriguing mystery to the Albert Furniture Company pieces from Shelbyville Indiana. It was advertised as a piece from the 1920s, walnut. Can anyone offer any insight on this piece? Info is scattered at best this far.
Albert Furniture Co. - Business started by a Mr. Root and Albert Kahn about 1900. Became the Albert Furniture Co. in 1912. Company was forced into receivership in 1957.
Below from Shelby County Historical
Root Furniture Co, later known as
Albert Furniture Co
Henry Joseph Furniture Co
Thanks for that info! Any idea on when they went from Albert Furniture Company to Albert Modern Distinctive Furniture? We're not finding any date stamps at all. The drawers do not have any metal guides, or anything like that. Just a tight fit, and small wooden blocks to line up with the outer edges of the drawers.
It looks like 2 different pieces here and not meant to be on top of one another like this when it does not fit. The bottom should be same width as top.
I also have a piece. It's a vanity with a round mirror four small drawers.
It's Albert Furniture company, Shelby Indiana.
It has a label with the San Fransico Co it was shipped to as well as being #700. I thought I'd check it out online but can't find anything ....
