I recently acquired this wooden Captains chest which has 2 felt lined lift out trays with compartments for such things as Serving Dishes, Large plates, Wine coolers and Candlesticks and many more. I assumed the chest to be of Naval Origins but cannot find anything connected with the name on the Brass plate" Captain JTH Butt". However I have found a Captain John Thomas Henry Butt who served with the 75th Stirlingshire Foot Regiment in the 1850s-1860s during the Indian Uprisings, which went on to be the famous "Gordon Highlanders", obviously a Military Captain. As I am no expert in these matters I need to identify whether this is a chest that would have been used by a Military officer in such campaigns or definitely a Naval chest. I would appreciate any feedback or opinions that will help me move forward with my quest to find it's origins.
Cheers
