    We found this item in our dad's attic after he passed away. He grew up on a farm in Alabama in the 1920s-30s; it may have come from there. Any ideas on what this is? To gauge the size, the picture was taken on the tailgate of a standard pickup truck.

      It COULD be a clamp for a leather-worker, used to hold two pieces together for stitching, although it's bigger than the ones I have seen which generally have jaws around 4" in width. What I THINK it is, is a broom-makers clamp to hold the straws tightly while they are stitched across the width of the broom's head. But I have been known to be wrong.

      A clamp of some sort. I see there's a way to make the clamp hold thicker items. I would say for holding saws or other farm implements while sharping. Also could be used for clamping wooden items. Just a guess.

      The jaws don't open very wide, maybe it is for leather, but I don't think you'll find another one, it looks like someone's idea for a clamp, that worked for them! :^)
